Guess where I've been? That's right, I've been to Fleet Street to see the barber....and he can hold a grudge like nobody's business!
I swear, for the first 5 minutes at least, I was sitting with a little smile on my face thinking "I love Tim Burton". It was brilliant; all the actors did a wonderful job and I'm so amazed that Johnny ever doubted he would do a good job. Sure, the other actors did great with the singing, but he was the one who really managed to act through the songs.
Apart from that, as I suspected, I loved the mood of it - the dark, gloomy London. I did, however, not expect to find it exciting - it's a musical, so I didn't expect to be trying to urge the characters to react certain ways. And one other thing; every time I see a new film where Johnny's the baddie, I'm surprised at how evil he can look...
In an ideal world, Johnny and Tim would both win Oscars for this one, but I'm not naive enough to even dare hope for such a miracle.
